What Actually Sells on TikTok Shop Malaysia: A Price Analysis
What Actually Sells on TikTok Shop Malaysia: A Price Analysis
Most "what sells on TikTok Shop" articles are opinion. This one is a dated snapshot: real listings pulled from TikTok Shop Malaysia's hot-selling list, plus a same-category price search. It's small — three hot-list items and one 30-product keyword search — so read it as a set of observations, not a market study. But it shows the price-vs-volume pattern you need to sanity-check your own pricing.
All figures below are cumulative lifetime totals on TikTok Shop MY, captured 2026-10-09.
The hot-selling snapshot
| Product (MY hot-selling list) | Sale price | Units sold (cumulative) | Est. cumulative gross value |
|---|---|---|---|
| Baby bib / drool bib | RM2.20 | 778,765 | ~RM1.71m |
| Car fragrance | RM21.27 | 381,401 | ~RM8.11m |
| Perfume | RM27.58 | 61,891 | ~RM1.71m |
(Gross value = price × units; a rough lifetime figure, not a profit number.)
Three items is not a sample you can draw hard conclusions from, but the shape is telling:
- The cheapest item has the most units. The RM2.20 bib moved 778k units — far more than either higher-priced product. Unit volume lives at the low end.
- Volume is not money. At RM2.20, 778k units grosses ~RM1.71m. The RM21.27 car fragrance, at less than half the units, grosses ~RM8.11m — roughly 4.7× the revenue of the top-volume item. A high-unit cheap listing is not automatically the best listing.
- The drop-off between RM21 and RM28 is steep. Moving from RM21.27 to RM27.58 cuts units by roughly 6× (381k → 62k). Price sensitivity is real, and it bites hard in the RM20–30 zone.
The practical read: if you sell a low-ticket item, expect a volume game with thin per-unit margin — which makes every cost layer (payment fee, platform support fee, first-mile) matter more. If you sell a mid-ticket item, you can trade some volume for a far healthier gross. The car fragrance is the interesting case: an impulse-buy consumable priced well above "cheap" that still clears 381k units.
The phone-case price band
A hot-selling list tells you what's moving. A same-keyword price band tells you where the market sits for a specific product. We searched "phone case" on TikTok Shop MY and pulled 30 listings:
| Metric | Price (RM) |
|---|---|
| Minimum | ~1.10 |
| P25 | 4.68 |
| Median (P50) | ~5.00 |
| P75 | 5.50 |
| Maximum | ~19.00 |
The distribution is tight and cheap: half the listings sit between roughly RM4.68 and RM5.50, and the whole lower quartile-to-median range is compressed around five ringgit. But the tail runs up to RM19 — so a minority of sellers hold much higher prices.
A tight band also tells you something about the competition. When most listings cluster within a ringgit of each other, price is not the battleground — reviews, bundle size, and shipping speed are. If you enter a crowded band like this one, plan to win on those, not on shaving RM0.50 off the median.
This is where price positioning becomes concrete. In our worked profit example, we priced a phone case at RM15 (see How to Calculate Your Real Profit Per Order on Shopee Malaysia). Against this band, RM15 is well above the 75th percentile — a premium position. That's not wrong, but it means the product can't compete on price; it needs a reason to sit there (bundle, brand, faster delivery, better photos). A seller who doesn't realise RM15 is triple the median will wonder why the listing doesn't convert.
How to use a price band to set your price
- Search your exact keyword on the marketplace and pull the listings.
- Find where the mass sits (P25–P75). That's the "market price."
- Decide your position: below the band (compete on price, thin margin), inside it (compete on execution), or above it (you must justify it).
- Run the full cost stack at your chosen price — because a price that looks fine against the band can still lose money once LVG, first-mile and FX are added. See China to Malaysia Shipping Costs for the inbound piece.
The tool does the band for you
Doing this by hand — searching, collecting 30 prices, sorting into percentiles — takes time you won't repeat for every SKU. The free SEA Profit Calculator has a live reference-price feature: enter your product keyword and it pulls current TikTok Shop MY listings for that keyword, then shows the P25 / P50 / P75 price band with your price plotted against it. So you set a price and see instantly whether it sits below, inside, or above the market — next to your net-profit number for the same order. Working out which marketplace takes less from your sales? The honest caveats
- This is a single snapshot (2026-10-09), not a trend line. Prices and rankings move.
- The hot-list analysis covers three items from one page, not a category census.
sold_countis cumulative lifetime, not a monthly figure.- Read the patterns as hypotheses to check against more data — which is exactly what a repeatable price-band lookup gives you.
Run the numbers on your own product. Six fee layers, live market price band, no sign-up.
